Outing on weekends are memorable event worth recording and sharing. Even after several years, we can see and recollect our memories.

26th February 2023

After an hour's drive reached Devanahalli (Bangalore) and had Breakfast. Very good tasty food, worth visiting when you go that side.

Devanahalli Fort

Devanahalli fort is located 35kms North of Bangalore city. History of Devanahalli dates back to 15th Century. Refugees fleeing from Kanchipuram camped at the foot of Ramasamy Betta (hill) east of Nandi Hills. Their leader RanaBaira Gowda of MorassuWakkalu family named their settlement "Avanti". His son MallaBaira Gowda founded Devanahalli, Chikka Ballapura and Dodda Ballapura. KempaGowda who founded the city of Bangalore was also from the MorassuWakkalu family.

Malla Byre Gowda of Avanti, which was a part of Vijayanagar Empire built this fort Devannadoddi in 1501C.E.  In 1747 Cheiftain Nanja Rajiah attacked the fort and it came under Wodayars of Mysore. Later, HyderAli father of Tippu Sultan took over the fort.  The birth place of TippuSultan is nearby outside the fort. In 1791 Lord Cornwallis of East India Company laid siege and took over in Anglo-Mysore war.

Inside the fort is a beautiful temple "Venugopalaswamy temple".

Our next destination ISHA - Bangalore

This is about 40 kms from Bangalore city. Work on this project has started only now and is in progress.

Our next destination - Bhoga Nandeeswara Gudi & Arunachaleshwara temple, dating back to 9th Century C.E. This is in Nandi village (Nandigramam) facing the Nandi hills.

Entrance to the temple

Nolambavadi Dravidian style of Architecture

Vasantha mandapam

Our next destination "Nandi Hills"
If you are expecting a very clean garden, then you will be disappointed. The whole place is dirty and not well maintained.

The food in this restaurant is not that good. It is better to have your food somewhere in Chikkaballapura before coming here.

There is a Shiva temple next to the garden

Tippu Sultan's Lodge in the hills
Backside view of the lodge

Terracotta wares on Bangalore to Hyderabad Highway. Very good and very reasonable priced.
